General
The war will be played in a friendly, courteous manner. The List Owner and/or List Gardener
reserve the right to ban a player or faction from the war for disregarding these rules, and to
terminate the war after a warning if there seems to be a problem with keeping the friendly atmosphere.
An FK War is not a role-playing game. Participants are not allowed to assume the persona of any
FK character or assume supernatural powers. Participants come as themselves, with slight exaggerations
allowed. This is how fans get to know one another.
Note:
Nevertheless, there are a few players from the earliest wars (before there were rules), who have
aspects that would not now be permitted. These are grandfathered in.
It is not necessary to belong to a faction in order to play. You may instead choose to participate as
an independent. If you do want to join an affiliation, all you have to do is declare yourself
a member.
All participants must have a permission slip
on record with McLisa.
War posts will be archived on this website. Every attempt will be made to keep it updated on a daily
basis. In any case, there is an
FK War Archive
Yahoo!Group that automatically
archives all posts to the FKFIC-L list that have the WAR: prefix. This is an open archive; and
anyone can read it.
Please try to reply to email requests to write you in a story or asking for information in as timely
a manner as possible. Remember, if you hold up a writer, you hold up the war.
Posting your Stories
All war story posts must be posted to FKFIC-L. Posts are limited to 3 per person per day. You may
want to split long stories into sections.
All the regular FKFIC-L rules apply during the war. Only stories may be posted to FKFIC-L. All war
discussions belong on FORKNI-L in posts with the WAR: prefix. Coordination is done off list.
The FKFIC-L mailing list requires plain text to post correctly. If you don’t know how to make
your e-mail program create plain text e-mail, please find out or else get someone else to post your story for you.
You might find it useful to check out Nancy Kaminski’s
tips for
creating plain text files.
All war story posts MUST include the WAR: header in the subject line. Please follow this format:
WAR: Faction: Story Title
For example:
WAR: Ravenettes: Janette Goes Shopping
The colon after WAR: is very important!
-
First, it’s required for the PSU server to recognize
the topic and send the post only to people who have signed up to receive war posts.
Second, it’s
required for the FK War Archive Yahoo!Group to know to archive the post.
Please don’t forget it!
In the header within your post, include the date and approximate time
your story takes place at the top of the story. If the post follows up on or is set before
another post, mention that at the top of the story as well. This is very helpful for readers—not
to mention being useful in archiving the war.
Anyone who can’t get the listserv to cooperate should write
to McLisa (mclisa1014 at gmail dot com).
Attacks
Attacks on factions or individuals are allowed, and indeed, are encouraged. As Susan Garrett
said, “In war, attack is the sincerest form of affection.”
By filing a permission slip, you’ve agreed to be attacked, and no further permission is needed.
Attacks may not be ignored.
For this war, it is not required to notify either factions or individuals in advance about a forthcoming
attack. However, it is not a bad idea to do so, time permitting, if only to ensure that people don’t
wind up in two places at the same time.
Miscellaneous
Because the war is played in real time, dropping post-dated stories (that is, posting a story on
Tuesday that is dated as taking place on Thursday) is strongly discouraged. Also, please try to
avoid skipping backwards to set a story at a time prior to stories that have already been written. (This
does not refer to the progessive minor delays that tend to happen as the war progresses, simply because writers get behind.)
Unlike previous wars, no faction has control over any of the FK characters; and permission does not
need to be obtained in order to use them in a story. If scheduling conflicts occur, use your ingenuity.
Joining other faction’s lists for spying purposes (for instance, if someone playing with the Perks joins
the Cousins under another name in order to scope out their war plans) is not permitted and is grounds
for dismissal from the war.
No killing, maiming, or bringing across of players or FK characters is permitted. This also applies to pets
and family members.
No crossover characters from other shows are permitted. (NOTE: On 5 February 2014, McLisa amended this rule to
accord with the usual rule for crossovers on FKFIC-L.)
