I have not seen many episodes of FK, but I'd say that this one was not bad. It certainly made me want to watch the show more often. The plot was not particularly sharp or original, but it was entertaining nonetheless, and as a Russian major I enjoyed the flashback sequences despite their not having all that much to do with the main plot and not inlcuding the historically documented way in which Rassilon, er, sorry, Rasputin, that is, died (I guess a carpet and a large body of water would have broken their budget).

I studied history in college and although FK's depiction of Rasputin's murder was not historically accurate, it does seem to explain how Rasputin could control the imperial family through hypnosis. Historians have yet to come up with a plausible answer as to how Rasputin could stop the tsar's son from bleeding (the boy had hemophilia.) Unfortunately, though I think Rasputin did indeed go out in the daylight. Nonetheless, I think LaCroix belonged in Imperial Russia before the revolution, as he seems to thrive on chaos.

I liked this episode very much, especially as it delat with the theme of Imperial Russia under the Romanovs, which is an interest of mine. I felt the historically inaccurate rendition of Raspution's death may have been an attempt to highlight the fact that he "was a vampire" or something very much the same, and at the same time show how history is viewed by mortals as opposed to Nick and similarly "gifted types". I have one point to ponder though. If Nick was in Russia around the time of the Revolution, why did he not attempt to rescue the Imperial Family for whom he had shown so much concern?

I have to disagree with this episode being all that great. The entire plot was just too transparent to me. All Nick had to do was show up arrest the bad guy and whammy the helpless victim! I do give it credit as to the part about programming the singer to kill, but anyone with at least a chimpanzee's IQ could figure out the killer and his motives because all the ones being killed were close to the singer!
