My Problem With the Issues of Vampirism and Immortality

I have always been disturbed with the idea of 'immortality', of living 'forever'. My first question is: how long is forever? Just as there was a beginning to Earth, won't there be an end, too? If so, would that be the end of the vampires, or would they continue? And, anyway, vampires aren't immortal, just really, really, really hard to kill! 8^) I'm surprised that such ponderings haven't distracted me from this great show, yet!

In Ashes to Ashes Nick said something very interesting to Nathalie: "When I die..." When, not if. An interesting choice of words which emphasize that vampires are not infallible. There is even at least one disease which can kill them (Fever). The nature of a vampire's 'immorality', as I see it, lies not in its inability to die, but rather in its inability to age.
