The Cousinly Pageon CERK 490 AM Toronto.
|
From twilight, through the witching hour and the gentle watches of
night
to just before dawn, Toronto's children of the night tune in, adjusting
their radio dials with pale fingers, searching through static for the
dragon's-breath voice of our own Nightcrawler, Lucien LaCroix.
Broadcasting from our studios, or live from the Raven club, our Uncle
soothes your fears, caresses your temptations, and catches you in the net
of your own illusions. Why not
call in?
The Nightcrawler loves you all.
LaCroix is played on Forever Knight by the immensely
talented (and utterly cool)
Nigel Bennett, who has won (quite deservedly)
a Gemini (Canadian Television Award) for the episode "Curiouser and
Curiouser."
Nigel's birthday is on November 19. Tradition is to write
LaCroix-centered stories around this time (especially drabbles). Yes, I
know Nigel's email is out there, but please don't flood his mailbox, even
with nice stuff.

The Cousins
But what is all this 'Uncle' stuff? What's a 'Cousin' anyway?
Well, as the result of a practical joke long ago, Forever Knight fandom, at least on the email lists, split into factions for the purpose of fiction wars (or so that Knighties could tell Cousins on sight and run away, it's not clear which). We followers of LaCroix are Cousins, and he is our Uncle.
From time to time, the Forever Knight fiction email list holds a war, a vast story in which the participants spend a few weeks (invariably during midterms or finals) ignoring work and school and writing their way to Toronto, to support their faction and play practical jokes on members of other factions and generally cause mayhem. The general plot of these wars usually involves Uncle attempting something the Knighties, followers of Nick Knight, don't approve of.
Cousins follow LaCroix for many different reasons. Some of us simply admire his style. Some enjoy watching a vampire who truly accepts what he is and doesn't have to be angst-ridden to be interesting. Some love his wicked ways. Some have fallen for that velvet Nightcrawler voice. Some just want to be in the best position to make fun of Nick. And some just like the view.
How do you become a Cousin? Well, you don't ask me to make you one. Being a Cousin is a matter of deciding you are one, and then saying so. It also helps to occasionally terrorize some Knighties (politely of course, with the same style and grace Uncle would show).
